The “El Perico” Collection

From the context it is clear that some of the “Contemporary Celebrities” in Ecuador were attempting to falsely translate or interpret Biblical verses regarding the concept of a kingdom of God on Earth.  Dr. Martinez argues again and again that the clear text of the Bible shows that Jesus said “My kingdom is not of this world”.
It must be borne in mind that even in the times of Dr. Martinez, the whole concept of allowing Catholics to read the Bible in Spanish (or English) was an entirely new concept. For centuries the Catholic Church had opposed this idea and it was only in the centuries after the pressure from the Protestant Reformation that the Church finally gave way on the issue of translating the Bible. So it wasn’t easy for contemporary Ecuadorians to verify what the Bible really said.
In this issue of “El Perico”, Dr. Martinez repeatedly quotes from the Bible in support of his arguments and condemns the false interpretations of the concept of the “Kingdom of God on Earth” which were being floated at that time in Ecuador to convert the Ecuadorian political system into a “Catholic Republic”.
